Ngarrindjeri Nation Website
This is a website dedicated to the Ngarrindjeri people.
This purpose of this site is to provide some information the Ngarrindjeri Nation, of which I am a descendant. My great, great grandfather is Alfred Cameron who was a Ngarrindjeri man who owned a sheep station called "The Needles" on the Coorong.
I didn't have an interest in learning my culture while growing up, but after attending the Reconciliation Day celebrations at the Flinders Medical Centre in May 2008 something happened that changed my mind. Watching the aboriginal dancers and hearing the digeridoo made me realize that I was missing out on learning about a rich culture that has survived in this country for many thousands of years. While I may not have much interest during my childhood years thankfully I have grown up and come to realize how important it is to get to know where I am from and the culture of my people.
I decided to create this site after trying to find information about the Ngarrindjeri people, land, culture and history on the internet. At present there is no single complete source of information available. By visiting a multitude of sites I thought that it would be great to have all this information available in the one place, and thus, this site was born. With the contributions of many people hopefully one day this site can be good enough to be a central focus point for all those wishing to learn about the Ngarrindjeri Nation. My journey of discovery has only just begun!
